Ten Farmers’ Markets in & Around Houston to Visit This Summer
My favorite thing about the summer is buying fresh, in season, produce from farmers markets. The beauty of Houston is that we are blessed with so many — and ones that are open just about every single day.
Here are ten farmers markets in and around the Houston area for you to frequent this summer, whether it is on a Saturday morning or after work on a Tuesday, there’s a farmers market waiting for you.
10. Grogan’s Mill Farmer’s Market Every Saturday, 8 a.m.- noon
For those of you who live in The Woodlands or in Spring, this farmers market is perfect for you. Located in the Grogan’s Mill Village Center, this farmers market offers a variety of vendors year-round selling gourmet coffee, fresh goat milk products, homegrown vegetables from local farms and even treats for your dogs. In fact, you can bring your dog to walk around the farmers market while you enjoy an iced coffee from AA Costa Rican Gourmet Coffee and a pastry from Angela’s Oven.
9. Spring Branch Farmers Market Every Thursday, 2-7 p.m.
As soon as you get off work on Thursday, head on down to the Spring Branch Farmers Market. The market opens up at 2 p.m., but stays open until 7 p.m. The market re-opened in April of this year and not only sells fresh produce, but also meals that are ready to go. Make things easier on yourself after work and grab something delicious.
If you’re in Galveston on the weekend, stop by the farmers market for something to eat for breakfast or grab some snacks and food for lunch during your trip to the beach. Purchase fresh herbs, produce, eggs and even products like freshly made pasta. Try this as something different the next time you take the family to the beach, or The Strand.
7. Kingwood Farmers Market Every Thursday, 3-7 p.m.
Kingwood Farmers Market is another place you can grab food on a weekday. Pick up some local produce, beef, eggs, cheeses and a variety of sauces or nuts for the weekend.
6. Rice University Farmers Market Every Tuesday, 3:30-7 p.m.
In the South Stadium Lot off of University Boulevard at Rice University you can purchase a bountiful amount of fresh produce, homemade breads, local honey, fresh meats and seafood, along with herbs, seasonings and even treats for your pet. Each Tuesday the farmers market is open from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Support local vendors and visit the beautiful Rice University campus during an evening trip to the farmers market.
5. Tomball Farmers Market Last Saturday of each month, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
End each month by heading to the Tomball Farmers Market at the corner of Cherry Street and FM 2920 in Tomball. Enjoy fresh produce and sometimes live music at this farmers market during the last Saturday of each month. Lotion and other personal care product are also available.
4. Pearland Old Townsite Farmers Market 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month, 8 a.m.- noon.
Twice a month you can visit the Pearland Old Townsite Farmers Market to sample and purchase tamales, beef jerky, candies, along with olive oils and spices. Grab a bite to eat for breakfast and purchase fresh produce for the rest of the weekend and the following week.
3. Theiss Farmers Market Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
I grew up going to the Theiss Farmers Market with my mom after school and work. This market has some of the best produce from the Klein area — we always walk away with tons of peaches, corn, apples and one or two watermelons, along with a couple of jars of apple butter from the Klein Bros. Seriously, that stuff is to die for. I also love that they are open every day. Hurry on over to the market now so you don’t miss out on some of the best produce around.
